Frequently Asked Questions
-
There are plenty of good photographers. I don't think the question should be, “Who takes the nicest photos?”
It should be, “Who understands what I actually need?”
I don't approach a portrait session as simply putting you in front of a nice backdrop and taking a few photographs.
Before we shoot, I want to understand what the photographs are for, how you want to be perceived and what you need the images to communicate.
Then I direct you.
That means helping you with your posture, expression, angles, movement, wardrobe and the little details that make a photograph work.
Because looking natural in a photograph is rarely accidental.
-
Yes. And honestly, most people who come to me are not professional models.
You don't need to know how to pose.
You don't need to know your “good side”.
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what expression to make.
That's what I'm there for.
I give you specific direction throughout the session. Sometimes it is something as simple as changing the angle of your chin, moving your hands or shifting your weight.
Small adjustments can completely change how a portrait feels.
My clients often tell me they were surprised by how easy the session felt, especially when they came in thinking they were going to be awkward in front of the camera. That is a big part of what I want the experience to be.
-
I don't believe professional has to mean stiff.
A corporate portrait can still have personality.
Depending on what you need, we can create photographs that feel confident, approachable, thoughtful, editorial, expressive or relaxed.
For some clients, that means a clean studio headshot.
For others, it might mean walking through the city, sitting in their workspace, speaking on stage, interacting with people or creating something more artistic.
The photograph should make sense for you and your work, not simply follow a standard corporate formula.
-
Yes.
I don't expect you to turn up with one outfit and hope for the best.
For personal branding sessions, I usually recommend bringing a range of looks. This could include something polished and professional, something smart casual, something more relaxed and something that has more personality.
We can then decide what works best for the location, lighting and purpose of each photograph.
If you're unsure, send me your outfit options beforehand. We can talk through them before the session.
-
Yes, and this is especially important for personal branding.
If you tell me, “I need new photos for LinkedIn,” I will want to know more.
Are you stepping into a leadership role?
Launching something?
Speaking at more events?
Being featured in the media?
Updating your website?
Trying to show a more human side of your business?
Your answers affect how we photograph you.
A good photograph is not just aesthetically pleasing. It needs to have a job to do.
-
I can help you look confident, but I don't want to manufacture a version of you that doesn't exist.
Confidence can look different from person to person.
It can be a direct gaze.
A relaxed expression.
A strong posture.
A quiet, thoughtful moment.
A genuine laugh.
A photograph where you look completely at ease.
My job is to find what works for you and direct you towards it.
-
They shouldn't.
Your profession may be similar to someone else's, but your personality, experience and story aren't.
I don't want every person photographed by me to look like they came from the same template.
We can play with lighting, location, wardrobe, composition, expression and movement to create something that feels appropriate to your professional world while still feeling like you.
-
No.
Headshots are one part of what I do.
I also create:
Personal branding portraits
For professionals who need a broader collection of photographs for their website, LinkedIn, social media and marketing.Leadership portraits
For executives, founders and women leaders who need photographs that communicate presence and authority.Speaker photography
For speakers, coaches and thought leaders who need both portraits and photographs of themselves in action.Organisational photography
For teams, workshops, panels, events and organisations that need cohesive visual content. The idea is to create photographs that are useful beyond one profile picture.
-
Absolutely.
My background is in visual arts, and I don't see a reason why a professional portrait has to be visually boring.
If your personality or brand allows for something more expressive, we can explore it.
This might mean stronger shadows, unusual compositions, movement, a more editorial approach or something quieter and more introspective.
The creative direction still needs to serve you. Artistic for the sake of being artistic isn't the point.
-
That's completely fine.
You don't need to arrive with a fully formed creative brief.
Tell me what you're trying to achieve, where the photographs will be used and what you don't like about your current photographs.
We'll work it out from there.
-
I don't believe in photographing hundreds of variations just so you can say you received hundreds of photographs.
I would rather create a smaller collection of photographs where each image has a reason to exist.
My sessions work on a session fee, with your photographs selected and purchased separately, either individually or through one of my collections. There is no pressure to purchase more than you need.
You might need one strong LinkedIn portrait.
You might need several different looks for your website.
Or you might want enough variety to support your content for the next six to twelve months.
We will plan the session around what you actually need, and you can decide how many photographs you want after seeing the results.
-
Yes.
Your selected photographs are professionally retouched.
The intention is to polish the image while keeping you recognisable as yourself.
Good retouching should not make you wonder who that person is.
-
Yes. Your selected photographs are delivered in formats that make them easy to use across different platforms and professional needs.
Each selected image includes:
Archival high-resolution file for keeping and professional use
Web-ready resized file for easy uploading to websites and online profiles
Social media-ready file with social crops where appropriate, so your photograph works across different aspect ratios and placements on platforms such as Instagram and LinkedIn
The aim is to make your photographs easy to use without you having to resize or crop them yourself.
Usage rights are subject to the licensing terms of your selected collection.
-
It depends on what we're creating.
A straightforward headshot can be relatively quick.
A personal branding session may take longer because we are creating different outfits, expressions, environments and types of photographs.
I would rather recommend the right amount of time for what you actually need than make every client fit into the same session length.
-
Sessions can take place in the studio or on location.
Studio sessions are held at:
160 Paya Lebar Road
#06-07 Orion@Paya Lebar
Singapore 409022For personal branding, we can also photograph you in environments that make sense for your work and personality.
This could be your workplace, a meeting space, an architectural location, outdoors or somewhere connected to your brand.
-
I have limited session slots each month, so I recommend booking as early as possible, especially if you have a specific date or deadline in mind.
All sessions are strictly by appointment only. I do not accept walk-ins, as each session requires preparation and planning beforehand.
If you have a specific deadline, let me know when enquiring and I’ll do my best to find a suitable date for you.
-
Yes.
I photograph teams, leadership groups, workshops, panels and events.
For organisations, I can create a combination of individual portraits, team photographs, leadership imagery and documentary-style photographs of people interacting and working.
The visual direction can also be planned around your existing brand so that the photographs feel cohesive across your website and communications.
-
I tend to work best with people who care about how they are represented.
Founders.
Women leaders.
Coaches and consultants.
Speakers.
Entrepreneurs.
Creative professionals.
Organisations.
People who have reached a point where their current photographs no longer reflect where they are professionally.
You don't have to be comfortable in front of the camera.
You just need to be willing to trust the process.
-
If you simply need a quick photograph with minimal direction, there are photographers who specialise in exactly that.
My work is more involved.
I care about the planning, the direction, the light, the expression and what the final photograph communicates.
If you want someone to simply point a camera at you and take a few photographs, I may not be the right photographer.
If you want to understand how you want to be seen and create photographs around that, we will probably work very well together.
-
You don't need to know exactly what you need before contacting me.
Tell me what you're working on, what the photographs are for and what you currently feel is missing.
We'll figure out the rest together.
The right portrait doesn't happen by accident. It is crafted through direction, light, expression and understanding the person in front of the camera.
